An honest woodcutter story | English children story

There lived a woodcutter in a village. He was very poor. He was very honest, too. One day, he was felling a tree on the bank of a deep pool by chance his axe fell into the water. He did not know how to swim. He was too poor to buy a new one. He was very sad.

just then the god of water appeared there. He felt pity for the poor woodcutter. He dived into the water and brought out an axe. It was a gold axe. The woodcutter refused to take that. He said that it was not his. The god dived into the water again. This time he brought out a sliver axe. But the honest woodcutter did not take the silver axe also.

At last, the god brought out the woodcutter’s axe. The poor man was very happy to see his own axe. The god was pleased with his honesty. He gave the poor man all three axes in reward.

Moral: Honesty is the best policy.
