There lived two young men in a certain village. Their names were ram and Shyam. They were friends. Once they were going on a journey. Their way lay through a thick forest. They promised to help each other in difficulty. Suddenly they saw a bear coming towards them. They felt frightened. Ram climbed up a nearby tree. Shyam did not know how to climb up a tree. His life was in danger. He lay down on the way as if he were dead.
soon the bear reached there. It is said that bears do no harm to a dead man. It smelt Shyam’s face and ear. It took him for dead and went away.
after some time ram came to Shyam. He said,” what did the bear say to you?” Shyam replied, “he advised me never to trust a selfish friend.”
Moral: A friend in need is a friend indeed.
